Our Company

Mechanical Insulation for Demanding Project Environments.

Standard Mechanical Insulation, LLC supports mechanical contractors, general contractors, design-build teams, facility owners, and public agencies. Our scope covers piping, ductwork, and mechanical equipment across new construction, renovations, system replacements, repairs, and energy-efficiency upgrades in commercial and industrial environments.

Our main office is in Bismarck, North Dakota, with an additional office presence in Duluth, Minnesota. The Midwest remains our primary operating focus, while select nationwide opportunities are evaluated for schedule, staffing, labor jurisdiction, and applicable project requirements.

Our Workforce & Approach

Qualified Crews. Coordinated Execution. Accountable Leadership.

SMI is affiliated with the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers. Experienced foremen and established field crews provide a foundation, supported by access to qualified union manpower through established labor relationships as project demands evolve.

Workforce planning considers each project’s schedule, workload, and requirements. Before field work begins, SMI coordinates submittals, materials, manpower, and safety. During execution, accountable supervision, clear communication, and quality control help maintain alignment between the field team and project stakeholders.

Safety & Contractor Readiness

Safety Discipline Backed by Documented Readiness.

SMI’s documented safety performance includes zero OSHA recordables and zero OSHA citations over five years. Field practices include daily JHA and pre-task planning, toolbox talks, site-specific compliance, and OSHA 10/30 trained personnel, supported by field supervision and quality control.

Insurance, bonding, and prequalification readiness help customers evaluate SMI before award. Available documentation includes W-9, certificates of insurance, safety information, references, and capability details. Bonding information is provided as required, and current EMR information is available upon customer request.
